Vintage London Railway Posters

This is a development from two previous blog posts where I talked about East Anglian Railway posters and my favourite places in London.

These posters prove that even though London has modernised over the decades, it is still recognisable. This shows how iconic London is. I like to look at the different styles of artwork on these posters. The bright colours make London look bold and an exciting place to visit. They represent some of London's main tourist sights such as, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, the Tower of London and the London Underground.
The posters also show that there has always been an interest for people from abroad to travel to London, particularly within Europe. The bottom two posters refer to the travel links from Paris.

Favourite places in London

I have been lucky enough to visit London each year with my family. I have visited many of the tourist places and spend most of my trips taking photos on my camera. There is so much to see in London and I like to capture what I have seen though my photos. I thought I would share with you some of my favourite places to visit in London.

1. V&A Museum - Without a doubt one of my favourite places is the V&A museum. I like to look at the exhibitions, which inspire me with my art coursework. When I'm at the V&A I usually take photographs and sketch in my book.
2. The Royal Palaces - I find it interesting looking at history and learning about the past. I enjoy visiting all of the Royal palaces which include, Hampton Court, Kensington and the Tower of London.
3. Walking down the mall on a Sunday - On a Sunday no cars, taxis, buses, etc, are allowed on the mall in front of Buckingham Palace. This means that people are allowed to walk down the road. It is quiet if you walk there in the morning and provides a great view of the palace. Also you can walk through St James' Park on the way back.
You may not know that through the arches leading from Trafalgar Square towards Buckingham Palace there is a gold nose. This was left over from a statue and just stuck on the archway. I have found it and have included a picture below.
4. Covent Garden - I like to look at the shops and market stalls in Covent Garden. Also there are often musicians and performers for people to watch while they are there.
5. Trafalgar square - In Trafalgar Square I can visit the National Gallery and the National Portrait gallery. I also like to sit in Trafalgar Square and watch the world go by. It's nice to have a quiet sit down in a busy place such as London.

I would like to find new places to visit in London. I would like to discover more museums, quaint cafes that not many people know about and good restaurants, as my family's favourite restaurant in London recently closed.
Where are your favourite places to visit in London? I would like to know, so that I can visit some new places.

Really like looking at all the Christmas decorations around December time.

These are all photographs I had taken on past trips to London.

Vintage railway posters

As I have said in previous posts I like to collect postcards. Some of my favourites are vintage railway posters. These posters are usually from the 1920s and 1930s. I looked at these posters for my GCSE Art and enjoyed paining in the colourful, art deco style. The posters look bright, cheerful and make the beautiful East Anglian coastline appealing to go to. Here I have found a collection of East Anglian Railway Posters to show you these amazing, artistic posters. If only railway posters still looked like this.

Miniature Worlds

As part of my A-level artwork I looked at miniature worlds. I found it really interesting as they can range from hand-made sets to quirky street art. I liked looking at these smaller scale pieces. I thought I would share them with you as you may not have come across these styles of art, which are fascinating and imaginative pieces.

Matthew Albanese is an artist who makes miniature sets, which amaze me everytime I look at them. The detail of these lifelike pieces are incredible.

You can look at more amazing artworks by Matthew Albanese here.

I found the pieces below on Tumblr. I like the idea of using Lego, which I'm sure we all played with as children, to make colourful street art. Although the black and white piece has been edited and manipulated on the computer, it is still a good example of technical skill

As I've said in previous posts I like nail art. I think it would be fun to try something like this one day.

Tumblr Favorites February 2014

Here are some of my favourite posts from my Tumblr this month. You can look at my favourites from last month here.

This month my Tumblr has mainly been made up of gifs. These gifs are mostly scenes from my favourite films and TV shows. I like that scenes can been captured and repeated on a blog. Although I have no idea how people make them.

Thinking about the future

I am one of those people who likes to take each day as it comes. I tend to not make any plans over a month away, unless it's a holiday. As I have a lot on my mind I try not to think too much about the future. But it's slowly dawning on me that I need to think about University. Before I didn't think about it, however I realised that I need to look at University and courses.

Thankfully I have an amazing friend who invited me to her house for a 'Pizza and Prospectus Party', where we could eat pizza and look at University prospectus'. It was great as we were able to talk about universities, courses and requirements, and we also talked about school and other stuff. This really helped me understand a bit more about University. Now I have plenty of research and prospectus' to look through, and I will have even more when new information is released this year.

I am still confused about which University I want to go to, finance, location and travel. Also I am a bit worried about leaving my hometown and going somewhere new. But this has made me realise that at times we do need to plan ahead and think about the future, however scary it may be.

If you are at the same point as me and choosing to go to University or you have already been to University, I would like to hear from you. Feel free to comment any advice or stories that could help, I would really appreciate it.

Busy busy busy

Today is one of those days where I want to pause time. There is so much that I need to do but there are not enough hours in the day. By pausing time I would be able to achieve a lot more.

I'm busy with A-Level work, such as my art exam work and filming and editing a horror film for media studies. I'm also taking part in a charity project with friends where we are raising money for the childrens' hospice. This includes organising bake sales, a football match and a sponsored rowing marathon. Did I mention all this work needs to be finished before the end of February?

I try not to complain as in a way I set myself all this work to do because of the subjects I chose and doing extra curricular activities. All I'm saying is that I'm sure we all get those days when we feel our work load get on top of us, and feel that we just want time to slow down.
